2021 Wismer-Foxcroft Gamay

91 Points, John Szabo MS, WineAlign.com

A Gamay dictionary is what we affectionately call our series of distinct and limited micro-cuvees – now in their third vintage.

Born from the esteemed Wismer-Foxcroft vineyard on the Twenty Mile Bench, this gamay is ready to enjoy now, yet will reward cellaring into the mid 2020’s.

Winemaker's Notes:

This gamay’s distinctive personality, rustic and complex, proclaims itself as the nose draws red berries plum and raisin, accented by savoury herb tones. A taste finds it fresh and vibrant with flavours of cherry, cranberry and spice.

Grape clusters were hand-selected according to our Winemaker’s criteria on the 19th of October. Sugars averaged 20.7° Brix.

Vinification:
The newly harvested grapes fermented, half as whole-berry clusters and half crushed, in alternating layers, in stainless-steel tank. After seven months to age in neutral French
oak, 213 cases were bottled in June 2022.

Enjoy now to 2026.

At the time of bottling, alcohol measured 11.5%, residual sugar: 0 grams per litre titratable acidity: 7.1 grams per litre and pH: 3.39

Dry: 0 g/L residual sugar

Fullish, juicy, fresh, nicely balanced and sapid, genuine density here, and length. Excellent sapidity. An earlier-maturing, less reductive Foxcroft I the end, but offering lots of pleasure. The sharpest value in the Malivoire gamay range in 2021. Tasted August 2022.
