2014 Stouck Meritage

2014 Stouck Meritage

Winemaker's Notes:

68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked at the Stouck Family Vineyard as grape sugars averaged 23.1° Brix.

On the nose, sultana raisin, dark berry fruit, bacon, and forest floor.  The mouthfeel is rich, firm and fresh.  Flavours hint of blackcurrant, ripe raspberry and pomegranate, finishing with coffee and spice. The texture is smooth and bright.

Vinification:  The component varieties were crushed and divided, some going to steel tank and some to oak, for 15 to 20 days of primary fermentation.  The wine was racked to French and American oak barrels to finish malolactic conversion.

All of the wine aged fifteen months in barrel, 77.5% in French oak 22.5% in American oak.  Of the total wine, roughly 16% aged in new in new French oak, while an equal portion aged in new American barrels.

At the time of bottling in April 2016, alcohol measured 13.4%, residual sugar 0.4 grams per Litre, titratable acidity: 5.8 grams per litre; pH: 3.74.

Less than 150 cases available.

"Another super Stouck (vineyard) wine! This Meritage which is Merlot dominant doles out the chocolate, coffee, smoke, cassis, plum, cherry, herbs and baking spice. Full bodied with a concentrated palate and a great finish. Drink over the next five years." (E.Saviolidis, WineSaavy)
