The nose is a blend of wood, cooked fruit and spice with earthy tack shop reminders. The mouthfeel is fruity and buoyant, and flavours recall blackcurrant, raspberry, black coffee and tobacco.
Picked at Quarry Ridge Vineyard on September 21st as grape sugars averaged 20.5° Brix. After stainless steel fermentation, the wine was transferred to 225-L American oak barrels, of which 32 % were new.
The wine completed malolactic fermentation and aged for 18 months, before being bottled in April 2018.
At the time of bottling, alcohol measured 12%, 3.5 g/l residual sugar, 6.7 g/l titratable acidity and 3.75 pH.
Quantity bottled was 511 cases. Enjoy now to 2025.
Try with beef stew, or roasted or barbequed meats. Serve near 14° C.
