Scented of strawberry and cherry, with earthier notes of pipe tobacco, cedar shavings and underbrush. This wine is full and weighty, and flavoured of cooked fruits, cream, plum, raisin and beetroot.
Merlot grapes from Rennie Estates’ Heron Pond Vineyard were picked on October 19th at 22.9° Brix. Following primary fermentation, dried merlot grape skins were introduced to soak ripasso-style on the wine. Following, the wine was transferred to four French oak barrels, 22% of which were in first use, to undergo malolactic fermentation and age for twenty-two months.
The finished Scarpata was bottled unfiltered in March 2018 with alcohol measuring 14.9%, residual sugar 0.5 grams per litre, titratable acidity 6.7 grams per litre and pH 3.62.
