Manifold aromas speak of sweet black plum, black currant and dark cherry intermingled with, clove, chocolate, caramel and a trace of coconut.
Spreading luxuriously across the palate, the wine’s irresistible dark fruit and toffee flavours are accented accentuated by explosions of spicy nutmeg, cinnamon heart, rosemary and sage.
Although “Super G” is approachable now, it’s robust core of red fruit, alcohol and ripe, concentrated tannins provide significant structure for serious ageability.
“Super G” is made from hand-harvested grapes picked November 7th from 22 year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines located on a select ,west facing shelf at Rennie Estates’ Heron Pond Vineyard. Sugar ripeness, 22.2° Brix at harvest, increased to 30.1° as the grapes chamber-dried for 65 days, losing 34 % of their weight.
The dried fruit was first vinified in a small tank, undergoing gradual primary and full malo-lactic fermentation. The free-run juice was transferred to French Oak barrels, 75 % of which were in first use, and aged for 28 months. When bottled in August 2020, alcohol was measured at 16.5 %, residual sugar 0.6 grams per Litre, titratable acidity 5.7 grams per Litre and pH 4.1.
Total production was only 37 cases of 750-mL bottles
