Winemaker's Notes

Brightly perfumed of rich strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb and watermelon.  A sip is juicy, mouth-filling and tasting of dark cherries and other red berry fruits, pomegranate and Granny Smith apple.  The finish is long and fresh.

Composition:  47% cabernet franc, 46% gamay and 7% pinot noir.  Pressed from grapes grown specifically for this wine, picked as grape sugars averaged 21.2° Brix.

The berries were destemmed, crushed, and sent to tank.   The mixture of crushed grapes and free-run juice cold-soaked for between two and twelve hours before pressing.  Cold-fermentation and stabilization were completed in stainless steel before bottling in March 2021.

Dry: 5.5 g/L residual sugar According to the LCBO Sweetness Code: No sweetness perceived; well rounded with balanced acitity.

At the time of bottling, alcohol measured at 12%, residual sugar 5.5 grams per litre, titratable acidity 8.5 grams per litre and pH 3.47.

Delicate aromas of watermelon, strawberry and raspberry can be coaxed on the nose. It’s graceful, even elegant on the palate with a perfectly balanced river of pure ambrosia on the palate showcasing ripe black cherry, racy pomegranate and sweet-tinged watermelon adorned with notions of apple and pear. This is value packed, medium-bodied with good mouthfeel and plenty to like on the crisp, refreshing finish an aftertaste. Pour on its own or pair with a charcuterie board or pan-seared Atlantic salmon or potato salad adorned with chunks of smoked salmon. (Vic Harradine)

Arguably, the most recognizable Rosé from Ontario. The warm vintage of 2020 amped up this wine helping to create a concentrated mix of strawberry, rhubarb, raspberry, cassis, pink grapefruit and sweet herbs. Excellent length and value. Ready to drink so try with souvlaki skewers. Majoritarily Cabernet Franc backstopped by Gamay and Pinot Noir.

This wildly popular Ladybug is the pillar of the rosé family at Malivoire that includes two other still rosés and a sparkling version. They take their rosés very seriously. The 2020 version of the Ladybug appears a bit lighter in colour to last year’s version, showing a paler shade of pink in the glass. It’s a blend of 47% Cabernet Franc, 46% Gamay and the rest Pinot Noir and has an attractive nose of red berries, subtle herbs, watermelons and plums. It’s refreshing and bursting with the full range of red berries, herbs, apple skin and a refreshing finish with mouth-watering acidity. This might just be the driest Ladybug to date. It’s a delight!
