2017 Moira Cat On The Bench Chardonnay Stave
Unlike its “Steel” and “Skin” counterparts, this is the only one of the 2017 Moira Chardonnay trio to age in barrel.
The nose finds baked apple and melon with spicy and toasty nuances. A taste finds luxurious weight and texture, and a citrusy entry followed by flavours of stone fruits, Devonshire cream and cinnamon.
Picked at the Moira Vineyard on October 20th, as harvest sugars averaged 22.1° Brix.
Hand-harvested from 22-year-old chardonnay vines, the grapes were sorted and pressed in whole clusters. After chilling for one day in a horizontal “milk tank”, the juice was transferred to French oak for primary fermentation with no malolactic conversion. After one year, the wine was drained to a stainless-steel barrel to rest for a final four months before bottling.
