2017 Small Lot Chardonnay
Fragrant of honeycrisp apple, melon and lemon. This is a zesty-textured wine with bright flavours of green apple, almond, herbs and custard.
Grapes were hand-picked from our Moira and Mottiar sites at average 20.8° brix.
After whole-cluster pressing, 68% of the juice finished primary fermentation in stainless steel. The remainder was racked to 300-Litre French oak puncheons for both primary and malo-lactic fermentation. After eight months on the lees, all the wine was blended and transferred to neutral barrels to age for another four months. In December 2018, 217 cases were bottled.
At the time of bottling, alcohol measured 12.5%, residual sugar 0 grams per litre, titratable acidity 5.2 grams per litre and pH 3.5.
This vintage will drink well through 2021.
Try with roasted chicken, turkey or pork or baked fish. Serve near 10° C
Malivoire Small Lot Chardonnay 2017 ($20, 92 points) — That’s a lot of points for a $20 Chardonnay, so consider this lovely Chardonny, a blend of Moira and Mottiar vineyards, a super bargain and fill up your cellar. It sees only four months of oak. Such an inviting nose of creamy pear, bright green apple, flinty minerality and integrated spice notes. It’s quite elegant on the palate with a deft touch on the oak that highlights pure fruit flavours, flint and light spice notes on a vibrant finish. winesinniagara.com, R. Vansickle, May 23, 2019
