Winemaker's Notes:

Fruity aromas evince pear, pineapple, nectarine and apricot, and a trace of cashew.  The mouthfeel is soft, round and supple, leaving a tangy finish.   Flavours suggest pineapple, lime, green apple and honey.

Hand harvested at winemaker Shiraz Mottiar’s home vineyard on September 18th as grape sugars averaged 21.2° Brix.

Primary fermentation used wild yeast in older French oak puncheons, followed by partial malolactic conversion.  The wine remained in barrel for 9 months to age on fine lees.  Sixty cases were bottled in July 2019.

Quantity bottled was only 60 cases.

Dry: 0 g/L residual sugar

At the time of bottling, alcohol measured 12.5%, residual sugar 0 grams per litre, titratable acidity 6.1 grams per litre and pH 3.2.

Moira Chardonnay 2018, the other Beamsville Bench single-vineyard Chardonnay from Malivoire, was named as one of the most thrilling white wines of 2020 by Wines In Niagara. And this one, from winemaker Shiraz Mottiar’s own vineyard, could easily fit into that same list. The wine is wild fermented in older French oak puncheons and than aged in barrel on the lees for nine months. Only 60 cases of this wine were made. Wow, such a lovely lemony/saline nose of pure minerality with pear, apple, nectarine and integrated spice notes. It has gorgeous texture on the palate with rich stone fruits, toasted almonds and vanilla with a deep vein of stony minerality and spice on a bright, zesty, lifted finish. Just lovely and will only get better with a few years in the cellar.

Pale straw in colour; lightly toasty, spicy, apple with a note of cashew nut, minerally (almost salty) with a light floral fragrance; medium-bodied, dry, apple and green pineapple flavours carried on lively acidity. Lovely mouth-feel.
