Winemaker's Notes:

Fruit, depth and power personify this remarkable Gamay interpretation.  Scents of plum, black cherry and cranberry radiate from the glass, underscored by spice, leather and mineral tones.  Silky, fruity and bright to your mouth, it tastes of mixed berries led by cherry and raspberry, with a sprinkle of tamarind and black tea on the finish.

Made of grapes from our winery Estate site, harvested September 29th at average 23.3° Brix.

Whole grape clusters were directed to a stainless-steel tank.  Purged of oxygen, the tanks were sealed for one week of carbonic maceration without mechanical or other augmentation.  Primary fermentation under wild yeast was followed by malo-lactic conversion.

The wine aged for six months in neutral 300-Litre French oak puncheons before filling 98 cases in May 2021.  Enjoy now to 2024.

At the time of bottling, alcohol measured 13%, residual sugar: 0 grams per litre titratable acidity: 7.2 grams per litre and pH: 3.46

Dry: 0 g/L residual sugar

The rich and luscious aromas of grilled savory herbs, mixed spice and dark fruit beguile the senses before delivering lively red fruit flavours—raspberry, currant and cherry—on the palate adorned with lip-smacking acidity and plenty of delightful, lively pizzazz. This is medium-plus bodied with good texture and mouthfeel and persistent purity of fruit to and through the mouth-watering finish and aftertaste. It finishes lengthy, satisfying and just plain delicious. Pour with grilled rack of lamb and oven-roasted potato wedges, skins on.

"The most 'Beaujolais' influenced of the Malivoire range, with whole bunches left 10 days in a fully sealed vat after harvest to undergo carbonic maceration. It has punchy aromatics with lots of carbonic influence, violets and pepper. The palate delivers zesty acids, crunchy and fresh, and all red fruit flavours and wet clay, and very good length. Classic varietal-stylistic expression. Tasted twice in 2021, including blind at the National Wine Awards of Canada in October: "Full, blue fruit, Morgon-like granite, dense and plush, highly concentrated. Can't imagine Canadian gamay getting much better than this. Such richness on the palate, with exceptional length and depth."

Winemaker Shiraz Mottiar is the Gamay king, and that’s a fact. He and his team have built up an arsenal of vessels and techniques to coax myriad expressions out of this fascinating grape vintage to vintage. The ‘Le Coeur’ is a more pure expression of Gamay. Whole cluster grapes went straight to stainless steel tank, purged of oxygen and sealed for a week of carbonic maceration. It was wild fermented and malo-lactic conversion took place before the wine was aged for six months in neutral 300-L French oak puncheons. On the nose, it bursts with black cherries, pure raspberries and plums that integrate flawlessly. It’s made with 0 g/l of RS, but the fruit on the palate is magnificently ripe with full blown red berries, subtle savoury notes, soft tannins and otherwise pristine, lifted and finessed on the tangy finish.
