A Gamay dictionary is what we affectionately call our series of distinct and limited micro-cuvees – now in their second vintage.

Completing the trio of already released Genova and ‘Le Coeur’ bottlings, the Wismer-Foxcroft will not disappoint, or last long. Like ‘Le Coeur’, it is a dark and robust expression of Gamay, yet it fully reveals its own unique floral and peppery character.

Born from the esteemed Wismer Foxcroft vineyard on the Twenty Mile Bench, this gamay is ready to enjoy now, yet will reward cellaring into the mid 2020’s.

Only 140 cases available. Don't miss it!

Winemaker's Notes:

Deft aromas of cherry, blue plum, dark berries and pepper that carry through the palate.  The balance of healthy tannins and acidity make this an age-worthy Gamay.

Grape clusters (100% Gamay) were hand-selected according to our Winemaker’s criteria on the 5th of October.  Sugars averaged 22.2° Brix.

The newly harvested grapes fermented, half as whole-berry clusters and half crushed, in alternating layers, in stainless-steel tank.  After press, the wine aged for six months in neutral French oak barrels.

Enjoy now to mid 2020s.

At the time of bottling, alcohol measured 13%, residual sugar: 0 grams per litre titratable acidity: 6.8 grams per litre and pH: 3.483

Dry: 0 g/L residual sugar

This is, for my palate, the best Gamay Malivoire has produced. Deep ruby-purple in colour; the nose is minerally, cherry and plum with a light floral note; medium-bodied, dry, wonderfully balanced with richly extracted flavours of cherry and red plum with just a touch of oak to broaden the palate. Reminiscent of a cru Beaujolais.

2020 is a terrific vintage for the Wismer-Foxcroft vineyard gamay, by now a distinguished site on the Niagara Escarpment. It's still tightly wound, lightly reductive, though less than previous vintages I find at the same stage, showing impressive florals and pepper - the top notes. The palate shows terrific depth and length. A succulent, pretty, rich, fleshy, and satisfying wine. Drink or hold into the mid-late '20s. Tasted July 2021.
