2020 Moira Chardonnay
Winemaker Notes:
Gracefully scented of sliced pear, baked spiced apple and honey, with traces of melon, orange blossom and toasted almond.
You’ll be charmed by a creamy, tingly structure and the pear-apple-honey theme that carries over the palate. Added expressions convey pineapple and brioche.
Hand-picked from the Moira Vineyard’s north block on September 19th and 20th at 21.5° Brix average grape sugar.
Grapes picked on the first day were pressed in whole clusters, while those from the second day were destemmed first. The juice was fed into neutral (five-to-ten-year-old) French oak “hogshead” barrels. The wine completed primary and 100% malolactic fermentation and, after nine months, 122 cases were bottled, unfiltered, in July 2021.
At the time of bottling, alcohol measured: 12.5%, residual sugar: 4 grams per Litre; titratable acidity: 5.7 grams per Litre; pH: 3.37
Dry: 4 g/L residual sugar
