2020 Moira Chardonnay

SILVER 2021 National Wine Awards
95 points, Vic Harradine, Winecurrent.com

Winemaker Notes:

Gracefully scented of sliced pear, baked spiced apple and honey, with traces of melon, orange blossom and toasted almond.
You’ll be charmed by a creamy, tingly structure and the pear-apple-honey theme that carries over the palate.  Added expressions convey pineapple and brioche.

Hand-picked from the Moira Vineyard’s north block on September 19th and 20th at 21.5° Brix average grape sugar.

Grapes picked on the first day were pressed in whole clusters, while those from the second day were destemmed first.  The juice was fed into neutral (five-to-ten-year-old) French oak “hogshead” barrels. The wine completed primary and 100% malolactic fermentation and, after nine months, 122 cases were bottled, unfiltered, in July 2021.

At the time of bottling, alcohol measured: 12.5%,  residual sugar: 4 grams per Litre; titratable acidity: 5.7 grams per Litre; pH: 3.37

Dry:  4 g/L residual sugar

Elegant with depth and great fruit-flavours—lemon chiffon pie, baked apple and ripe Bartlett pear—the tang and tannin is quite manageable, as is the palate flavours that remain to and through the finish and aftertaste with persistent purity of fruit and deft balance throughout. The price / quality balance tips well in your favour, pick up a few.

...this wine is flavourful, smooth and creamy in the mouth - fruits are pear, apple, and apricot that are pushed along by lively acidity and a citrus finish.
