Winemaker's Notes

Composition: 100 % Melon de Bourgogne

Vibrant, fruity pineapple, orange blossom, crab apple, quince and candied ginger rise to the nose.  Flavours of tangerine, lemon curd, honeydew melon and pear express with a playful zing, leaving fresh citrus and apple to linger.

Hand-picked in early October, 80% from the Malivoire Estate Vineyard and 20% from the Mottiar Vineyard. Grape sugars averaged 20.5° Brix.

Pressed from whole grape clusters, the fresh juice underwent primary fermentation, settling and ageing in standard and horizonal stainless steel tanks, with extended lees contact.  Bottling filled 288 cases in December 2023.

Dry: 0 residual sugar.

At the time of bottling ; Alcohol measured: 12%; Residual Sugar: 0 grams per Litre; Titratable Acidity: 7 grams per litre;  pH: 3.25

Enjoy now through 2026.

At Malivoire, we like to do things a little differently. The wine road less travelled is something we’ve grown accustomed to taking, knowing it can ultimately be very rewarding.

Looking back, it seems only fitting that we embraced vines originally sent to us in error, to create a new wine. The result turned out to be one of our signatures – the zesty, aromatic white variety known as Melon.

Our original, “happy accident” plantings have increased over the years so that now, we just might be able to supply enough of this rare wine to keep up with demand!

If you are new to this variety, and enjoy the racy, crisp attitude of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, then our Melon is one to try!

2023 Melon

I came across this wine at Taste Ontario this spring. It’s a great wine to share - everyone loves it. Sadly, I’m nearly out and it’s sold out for the season.
